A "what if" question for a subwoofer.

If one had a pair of 9844-8a's (or b's) and wanted to use these in a semi-correct high mounted (near the ceiling) position and wanted to use them with a single subwoofer speaker but wanted to keep it Altec what speaker and single enclosure could one use?? This sub would be driven by an separately mounted plate amp from which the crossover/gain etc would be controlled. I have frequently heard that the lower bass is a problem with some Altec's so I was thinking this three piece approach might work. What do you guys think ???

I think you should mount the 9844's and then dial them in and see if a sub is even needed. But if you do I'd go with 3184's just because bigger is better. ?
